A good week in amarillo

Monday- This day consists of my weekly dose of bad reality television that Shawna and I can't help but watch.."The Hills" need I say more? I'll be the first to admit that the show is really pointless, but it's like a trainwreck, I can't help but watch!

Tuesday-Pottery class! So Shawna, Becca and I are participating in a pottery class tuesday evenings for a few hours and it is so much fun. So far we have each made a few "bowls" or objects that resemble cylindrical structures. By the end of these six weeks I'm pretty sure we are going to be amazing. Our instructor Kent is awesome and makes some really beautiful things. He's so passionate about what he does which is great. I love to be around passionate people that love what they do, it's so refreshing. The name of the gallery is Blue Sage Pottery http://bluesagepotteryandartgallery.com/default.aspx He throws the pots and his wife is the painter...check it out!

Wednesday- Even though we had a test on Friday Shawna, Jodie, Bridgett and I headed to the Midnight Rodeo (I know, don't judge me) to see Stoney LaRue. He's one of my favorite"texas country" artists and we didn't get to see him last time he was here so we sacrificed a few hours of sleep and went to see him. And I might add we all did well on our tests on friday...no harm done!

Thursday-Grey's Anatomy...finally! Okay, so from this post it seems like my life might revolve around tv, but come on it's been so long since Grey's has been on...and this is really the only show that I can't miss. The 2 hour premiere was pretty great. A few things I'm questioning though. 1) The new lesbian relationship is interesting...I mean I have no problem with it, but it just seems a little awkward. We will have to see how it pans out. 2) What was with Izzy and Denny at the end? Are we not over him, I mean he's dead...there's really no where for that story to go. 3) I'm getting a little tired of Meredith pulling the same old shit...give us something we aren't expecting. 4) Finally...I want cute army boy to come back fo sho!

Friday- MOUNTAIN BIKING! So the more I go out to the canyon the more I fall in love with riding. This time, Shawna, Caroline, Becca, Jake, Josh, Jeremy and I all went out. The girls and Jake rode the lighthouse trail while Josh and Jeremy rode the trail that Josh was riding in his race on Sunday. It was so fun...I'm starting to do little jumps and trying to keep up with Jake a little more...baby steps. Below are some pics from our trip.

Saturday- In the morning Shawna, Kat, Kyle and I "raced" a.k.a. walked for the cure. There were a ton of people out which was great to see. We walked a 5k around downtown and people had decorated their houses with pink streamers, boas and stuff. It was great to see how many people supported the cause! Later in the afternoon we had our annual "Bags" party at Dean Hooten's house. For those of you that don't know "Bags" is like washers but with bean bags and some plywood boxes with holes cut in them. It was cool to hangout with everyone but it was really hot! I'm ready for fall to get here and for the weather to cool off. Saturday night Shawna and I went out with some of the second years. We headed out to Burberry's to have a few drinks and catch some live music. It was really fun...those kids are hilarious. More good times to come I'm sure.

Sunday-I'm a nerd so I went to The 806, a local coffee shop, a studied for a few hours. I actually got quite a bit done which is good considering I have a practical and a test this week! AND Cheddars just opened in Amarillo and I am so pumped...so Shawna, Chris and I are getting ready to go...yesssssss!

I'm so proud...(tear)

So after almost 2 years of convincing Shawna FINALLY bought a mountain bike. She actually got a really good deal on a Specialized mountain bike. I would just like to add that this purchase is in addition to the tent, camp chairs, sleeping bag and fishing pole that she now owns (like I said, so proud). Anyways Thursday afternoon, Shawna, Josh, Jeremy, Jake, Greg and I decided to head out to Palo Duro Canyon to break in Shawna's new bike. For those of you not familiar to the vast greatness of west Texas, Palo Duro is a state park about 30 min away from Amarillo that has some great camping, hiking and mountain biking trails. You can actually forget that you are in flat, tree less west texas when your down in the canyon. Anyways, Shawna did great and I think she actually may have enjoyed herself a little. For those of you that have tried mountain biking you know that the first time you go, it's a little rough and takes time to get used to using certain muscles and figuring out how to ride. Here are some pics and an entertaining video from our little excursion. (please note shawna's face at the end of the video)

Palo Duro Canyon This is the "Lighthouse"
this is also our favorite trails at the canyon

lay off the high ones....i like the high ones

This summer some of my classmates and I decided to be in a co-ed softball league. Actually our brilliant coach Josh pretty much put everything together and we've been playing wednesday nights for the past couple of months. When we started during the summer we were awful...i mean really bad. This was partly due to the fact that the organizers put us into the second highest league! Yes, were all superstars when we reflect back on our highschool days (i think the older we get the better we were) but we are old and out of shape! I was so sore after the first game, it took me a good 2 weeks to recover. Thankfully we started to get a little better as the season went on and ended up winning 3 games...we even run ruled on team. Here are some pics from our last game

a diversion

So when I was home I was talking about my frustration with Amarillo and my general feeling of being "stuck." My mom said you just need a diversion. So I started searching for an outlet and stumbled upon a pottery gallery here in Amarillo. Pottery classes would be a great way for me to get away, even if for just a few hours a week...it would give me something to look forward to, something to do. I went a visited the gallery today and the artist was really nice and anxious to show me around and what his art was all about. The classes are small I think, only 5-6 people per class I think. He said they would probably have an opening in their monday night class and he will let me know this week. I am so excited!

You need 3 things in your life, someone to love, something to do and something to look forward to. -Jim Stovall (this may not be an exact quote, but it's pretty close)

OOOOOOOOOOklahoma!

I just got back to Amarillo after two blissful weeks in Tulsa where trees, lakes and all around green beautifulness is in plenty. I had a great time being with friends and family. We went to the lake the first weekend with the Tiptons, it was a little rainy, but we had a great time tubing (well they tubed and I rode in the boat). During the week I got a little bored because my friends are lame and have jobs so I went running or rode my dad's bike almost everyday, so I guess I was a little productive. The next weekend megan, chris, casey, josh and I went to fayetteville to visit megan and float the elk river. Saturday night we all went to a dueling piano bar...amazing! Sunday we had a lovely four hour float down the river. The scenery was beautiful and it was not too hot and the water felt great. The next week I cooked out with the rents and friends, had a great dinner with some of my parents friends and watched A LOT of Olympics! Saturday my parents and I went to Gilcrease Museum because they had an Ansel Adams exhibit. This guy really amazes me...breathtaking. Also over these two weeks my parents and I decided that my graduation trip is going to be an Alaskan cruise about which I am very excited. It's a place that all three of us have always wanted to go. Here are some pics from my trip home...

It's official

Welp, it's official I will be spending Jan 5-Feb 27 at Valmir rehab hospital in OKC and March 9-May 1 at Shriner's Children Hospital in Houston. I'm really pretty excited. The hospital in OKC is a neuro rehab so I will mainly be dealing with stroke, traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury patients. I'm actually looking forward to working in this setting because it's going to be very different from anything else I've ever experienced. I chose Shriner's for my last clinical because I would like to get some good pediatric PT experience and what better place to get that than Shriner's. In all, even though we were last pick I ended up getting some really great clinical sites and am going to learn a lot to say the least. Also, if anyone reading this has a room to rent or knows someone who can use a temporary roomate let me know!

It's been a while...

Okay, I'm going to make another attempt at this blogging business. I pretty much summarized May-July in a few posts, but you'll get the jist. I am going to try to keep this regular, but sometimes there really isn't much going on. No kids, no pets...just little 'ol me. But I guess your interested enough if your reading this. Enjoy.
